Minnesota Vikings kickoff song update

Andy Saur, descendent of Norsemen and Northland native, is pictured here in downtown Duluth with the multimedia presentation he sent to Minnesota Vikings owner, Mr. Zygi Wilf. Saur was the subject of Budgeteer editor Jana Peterson’s column last week.

Saur is campaigning to get the Minnesota Vikings football team to change its kickoff song from the guitar riff from the Guns n' Roses song “Welcome to the Jungle” to “Immigrant Song” by Led Zeppelin.

Here’s how the Zeppelin song begins: function photoFull (URL) { day = new Date(); id = day.getTime(); eval("page" + id + " = window.open(URL, '" + id + "', 'toolbar=0,scrollbars=0,location=0,statusbar=0,menubar=0,resizable=0,width=510,height=510,left = 137,top = 84');"); }

We come from the land of the ice and snow,

From the midnight sun where the hot springs blow.

The hammer of the gods will drive our ships to new lands,

To fight the horde, singing and crying: Valhalla, I am coming!

Saur has launched a campaign on the Web to collect signatures from those who would favor a change in tune. To sign Saur’s online petition, go to www.vikingskickoff.com, click on “Show your support” and type in your name and e-mail address. (Saur promises he won’t distribute those, but both are necessary to verify the signatures.) To e-mail Saur, e-mail norseman@vikingskickoff.com.

Oh, and keep your radio tuned to NPR, Saur is going to be featured on “The Word” sometime during the next two weeks.
